NDIS Short Term Accommodation & Respite in Brisbane

First Priority Care provides NDIS Short Term Accommodation, still widely called respite, across greater Brisbane. A stay covers accommodation, meals, personal care and 24-hour support, giving participants a change of scene and family carers a planned break. Brisbane referrals often come at hospital discharge, when home is not quite ready.

Quick answer

Can I get NDIS respite or Short Term Accommodation in Brisbane?

Yes. First Priority Care provides NDIS Short Term Accommodation across greater Brisbane. A stay covers accommodation, meals, personal care and 24-hour support, from one night to a few weeks. Delivering Short Term Accommodation in Brisbane

Brisbane's four tertiary hospitals discharge into four different parts of the city, and the river makes a stay on the wrong side a long drive for visiting family. We ask where family are before we place anyone, because a carer break is not much of a break if visiting becomes an hour each way.

Frequently Asked Questions | Short Term Accommodation Brisbane

Is Short Term Accommodation the same as respite?
Yes. Short Term Accommodation, or STA, is the NDIS name for what almost everyone still calls respite. The change is in the paperwork rather than the service. It is funded under Core Supports, and most participants who use it receive somewhere between 14 and 28 days a year.
Can you take a booking straight from a Brisbane hospital discharge?
Often yes. Discharge planners at the Royal Brisbane and Women's, the Princess Alexandra, QEII and The Prince Charles can call 1800 402 205 or send the referral form. Tell us the discharge date at referral, because a stay arranged before discharge is far easier than one arranged after.
