Short Term Accommodation (Respite)
Short Term Accommodation, or STA, is the NDIS funding category that replaced what used to be called respite care. It gives NDIS participants the chance to experience supported accommodation away from their usual home, and gives family carers and informal carers a planned break. First Priority Care provides STA across Queensland.

How we deliver it
STA provides a supported short-stay experience, typically a few days to a few weeks, in a supported accommodation setting with qualified disability support workers. It can be used for: giving family or informal carers a planned break (carer respite); giving the participant a new social experience in a supported environment; trying out a supported living arrangement before committing to long-term SIL; emergency or crisis accommodation when a participant's usual arrangements break down; post-hospital transition accommodation during recovery; or enabling a participant to attend an event or holiday with support.

NDIS funding
STA is funded under Core Supports: Assistance with Daily Life in your NDIS plan. The NDIS sets a per-day rate for STA that covers both support costs and accommodation (including meals). STA funding is typically separate from your regular support budget. If you don't have STA in your current plan, it can be requested at your next plan review.
