How often should a nurse check for pressure injuries?

Frequency depends on risk level. Participants assessed as high risk may need daily skin checks; moderate-risk participants may need weekly nursing reviews. Our nurses establish the appropriate monitoring schedule and train support workers to conduct daily visual skin checks between nursing visits.

Can pressure injuries be prevented entirely?

With the right repositioning schedule, pressure redistribution equipment and skin care, many pressure injuries can be prevented. Our nurses work proactively, not just treating wounds that have developed, but putting systems in place to stop them forming in the first place.

Pressure injuries (also called pressure sores or pressure ulcers) are a significant risk for NDIS participants who spend extended time sitting or lying in one position. Left unaddressed, they can progress rapidly from skin redness to deep tissue damage requiring hospitalisation. First Priority Care's registered nurses provide assessment, treatment and prevention programs that protect participants at risk across Queensland.
