Living with a stoma (a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy) requires regular skilled nursing care and good technique to maintain skin integrity, prevent complications and support daily independence. First Priority Care's registered nurses provide stoma care and management in your home across Queensland, helping participants maintain comfort, dignity and confidence.
What Our Stoma Care Includes
- Colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy bag changes: with appropriate pouch selection for your body and lifestyle
- Peristomal skin assessment and management: redness, erosion, granuloma, parastomal hernia monitoring
- Stoma measurement and output monitoring
- Product selection and troubleshooting: skin barriers, flanges, pouches, accessories
- Irrigation management for descending colostomies where clinically appropriate
- Stoma siting and post-operative review for new stomas
- Carer and support worker education in safe stoma management technique
- Liaison with stomal therapy nurse and colorectal surgeon for complex issues
- Assistance with NDIS and continence product funding applications for stoma supplies
NDIS Funding
Stoma nursing management is funded under Core Supports (High Intensity Daily Activity) or Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living). Stoma supplies (bags, flanges, barriers) are funded under Consumables or as Disability-Related Health Supports, and may also be available through the Stoma Appliance Scheme (government scheme, separate from NDIS).
